Psychedelic Icon of the Sixties: Syd Barrett

Syd Barrett was the founder, guitarist and vocalist of Pink Floyd. He recorded two albums with them "The Piper at the gates of Dawn" and "A Saucerful of Secrets". When he was thrown out of PF (due to irratic behaviour so the history tells) he recorded two solo-albums the self-titled "Barrett" and "The Madcap Laughs". After that he got in a terrible depression and was later diagnosed as chronic schizophrenic. He returned to Cambrigde to live with his mother and lived the rest of his life as a recluse. It is said that Syd appeared in the recordstudio when Pink Floyd was recording "Shine on you crazy diamond" (which was in fact a song inspired by Syd). It was a haunting experience for the members of Pink Floyd. You can see that in a lot of documentaries of the Floyd. Syd never returned to the musicscene anymore but painted a lot and was said to write a book about the history of art. Some say Syd's psyche was badly damaged by the large amounts of LSD he used to take in the sixties. We will never know, but his music is still here and is the creme de la creme of psychedelic sixties music.
