On the terrible and tragic 'Black Saturday' Fires in Victoria, two years ago (early 2010), a volunteer country fire service officer managed to save a badly burnt Koala, give it water to drink, and took it to the rescue centre. Here they bandaged up all 4 paws, and called it 'Sam', thinking it was a male. SHE turned out to be female, but kept the name.....The gold glitter shows the extent of the fires around Melbourne, and into country Victoria. Around 179 people lost their lives, and 5000 homes were burnt down. "Dave" became famous around the world, due to this photo which was broadcast by the media, and was the human face of the Victorian tragedy. He has regularly helped in media shows, to promote the welfare of animals burnt in bushfires. .......... I live near Adelaide, on left of map, where the white star is blinking!
